NEWS AND INFORMATION

John Nicholls

Picture

Long time Guild President  John Nicholls passed away on Saturday 21st March.  His impact on the Guild was immense and he will be fondly remembered by many.
His funeral will be on Thursday 16th April, 11.00am at St James, Chipping Campden.  There will be open ringing from 10am and again after the service.
There is a link on BellBoard for any ringing done in remembrance of John.  https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/memoria.php?id=22986

Chris Mew, former Guild Safeguarding Officer wrote the following appreciation of John:
John Nicholls was for many people “Mr Chipping Campden” having been involved with the church and tower for most of his life.  John was prominent in local ringing being President of the Four Shires Guild and an officer of the Gloucester and Bristol Association. He was a Central Council representative for the G&B.  John was instrumental in having a new 7th bell cast for Campden and tried for an augmentation to ten bells only to be thwarted by the Gloucester Diocesan adviser.
John was a capable and versatile ringer, I rang over 50 peals with him including Grandsire and Stedman Caters, 6 spliced surprise major and several at Evesham Bell tower. John also was part of a mid-week quarter peal band and I rang over 500 with him in some 190 different methods.
Outside ringing John taught at Chipping Campden school and had a keen interest in cricket being a trustee of the local cricket club. He will be missed by many people.
